Liza Minnelli has entered a rehab facility to receive treatment for substance abuse.

The 69-year-old actress and singer reportedly checked into a Malibu facility several days ago for alcohol-related issues, according to TMZ, which first reported the story.

“Liza Minnelli has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed to seek treatment, she had done so,” Minnelli rep Scott Gorenstein said in a statement. “She is currently making excellent progress at an undisclosed facility.”

Minnelli previously entered rehab in 2004, according to the Daily Mail.

In a 2004 interview with Dateline NBC, Minnelli described her battle with alcoholism, saying, “It’s about getting help to deal with the actual disease.”

“I know for sure one thing. I know for sure that in this disease you do not have a choice, you do not have a choice because you have a disease,” she said at the time. “You have a disease so you need someone in your family that understands or sees what’s happening who says ‘Sober up and see, you have a choice.'”

Minnelli’s mother, Hollywood legend Judy Garland, also struggled with substance abuse. Garland died of an accidental barbiturate overdose in June 1969, at the age of 47.
