One of the problems with introducing an old lap dog to new friends, is sometimes they bite people.

Singer and actress Barbra Streisand found that out the hard way Thursday afternoon while traveling via private jet from New York City to Washington, D.C., when her beloved 12-year-old Coton de Tulear dog, Samantha, lashed out and bit a flight attendant.

Samantha is a fixture on Streisand’s Instagram page, and has been even been photographed with Celine Dion:

While the pooch may be a Dion fan, apparently she does not like to be touched during travel.

A source close to Thursday’s incident told Us Weekly Friday the singer’s dog was aboard a private jet owned by Ron Perelman, when a flight attendant attempted to introduce herself by offering it her hand first. Apparently Samantha wasn’t feeling social, as she bit the stewardess so severely that the woman required stitches.

Streisand was reportedly horrified and embarrassed.

“This never happened before and Barbra apologized profusely to the flight attendant,” a representative for the singer told the site after the incident.

Streisand was on her way to D.C. to meet with senior members of Congress to lobby for women’s heart health awareness and medical care on behalf the Women’s Heart Alliance, which she cofounded, per the site.
