‘The Simpsons’ Renewed Through Record-Extending 28th Season

The Simpsons has been renewed for a record-setting 28th season.

Fox ordered a two-season renewal of the hit animated comedy series on Monday, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The new seasons of The Simpsons, already the longest-running primetime scripted television show in history, will bump the total number of episodes of the series to 625.

“I’ve outlasted Letterman, Jon Stewart and McDreamy, because I have something they don’t: a costly 200-donut-a-day-addiction,” said the show’s own Homer Simpson in Fox’s press release.

Showrunner Al Jean posted what appears to be a production script from the new season on Twitter Monday afternoon:

According to THR, the 26th season of The Simpsons is averaging 6.2 million viewers per episode and a strong 2.9 among adults 18-49.

Last year, FX Networks purchased the syndication rights to all 522 episodes of the series in a deal valued at approximately $750 million, according to Variety. FX aired a 12-day, non-stop marathon of every episode on its spinoff channel FXX in August.
