And so, a new genre of music was born.

Some online are calling him “Butthoven,” others describe his masterpiece as “disgusting,” but either way you look at it, a Reddit user known only as Laurence turned an act of primitive sibling communication into a shear work of fart.

Posting under the username lozzobear on Reddit, Laurence, who is from Australia, according to the New York Daily News, described the events leading up to what he calls his “Magnum Anus.”

“My brother moved away from town, and I was missing him. So I started texting him farts to let him know I love him. This would have been in the first dozen or so, but the second it came out I knew it was special,” he wrote.

And special it was, judging by its creator’s studio adjustments. By slowing down his strange work of flatulence, Laurence reckoned it to be a major seventh arpeggio in B flat with an incidental at the end.

With some accompaniment, the vaporous savant transformed his odorous wonder into a symphony and uploaded the audio to his YouTube channel Sunday, introducing it as his “Rectum Opus.”

Check out the video:

Laurence posted a link to the clip on Reddit, and said, “I was on tour with the band up in Yackandandah, northern VIC, and sharing a room with my other brother and one of the boys when this fart came out,” he said.

He added “I knew instantly that it was special, but it took me until today to realize the fullness of its potential.”

In just two days, the video has more than 1.6 million views… or should we say “listens” on YouTube, and has received rave reviews with around 20 thousand “likes” compared to less than one thousand “dislikes.”

Time will tell if the man will be able to cash in on the video’s financial potential, but with enough YouTube clicks, lozzobear could expect the site to cut him a check for his portion of the ad revenue, thus making his new brand of “music” both legitimate and profitable.
