Technical Issues Plague PC Release of ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’

Rocksteady Studios’ Batman: Arkham Knight released Tuesday, June 23, 2015 to a Metacritic score of 91/100 on the PlayStation 4. However, the PC release of the game has been marred by performance issues.

Gamers are upset about a 30 frames-per-second cap on the game, although it can be fixed by going to “\BmGame\Config\BmSystemSettings.ini” in the game’s directory and editing “Max_FPS=30” to “Max_FPS=9999” in the configuration file. Beyond the frame rate cap, poor optimization and performance issues have made the game unplayable for some gamers.

Early review copies of the game were only released for PlayStation 4, so gamers were not aware of the issues before buying the PC version. Rocksteady issued a statement on Tuesday, June 22, 2015, that “there are some known issues with the performance of Batman: Arkham Knight for PC owners using AMD graphics cards” and increased the game’s listed PC hardware requirements. Heavily disappointed gamers can take advantage of Steam’s new refund policy.

This reporter, a veteran of the previous Batman: Arkham games and current world-ranked #21 on the Batman version of the Arkham City “Black Mask” Xbox 360 challenge, has purchased an Xbox One edition of the game and will be reviewing it for Breitbart.

**UPDATE** Rocksteady Studios has issued a statement on the Arkham Knight forums:

We’re aware that some users are reporting performance issues with the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight. This is something that Rocksteady takes very seriously. We are working closely with our external PC development partner to make sure these issues get resolved as quickly as possible.

We’ll update this thread when we’ve got more info to share.

The reference to an “external PC development partner” is interesting, as Rocksteady Studios is listed as the sole developer on the Arkham Knight Steam store page. Breitbart News has reached out to Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for comment.

**UPDATE 2** KitGuru reports that the credits for Batman: Arkham Knight reference “Additional Engineering and PC Support” from Iron Galaxy Studios, “a Chicago based game development studio.” The developer’s projects page lists a number of games that they did supplemental work on, although Batman: Arkham Knight is not included among them.
