‘Gay Groom’s Guide’ Book Sales Skyrocket After SCOTUS Ruling

The U.S. Supreme Court mandated same-sex marriage a constitutional right Friday. Of those cheering, none were likely happier than Robert E. Blackmon, the author of The Gay Groom’s Guide.

According to TMZ, after the court’s 5-4 decision, the book sold more than 12,000 copies online and made Blackmon more than $320 thousand on Friday.

His representative told the website book sales went up by more than 500 percent.

“The ultimate resource for planning the perfect wedding… YOUR perfect wedding. This workbook is filled with useable note sheets and helpful charts,” a description of the Gay Groom’s Guide reads. “Wedding planning can be difficult, but my easy to follow tips will keep you from losing your mind in the process!”

TMZ reports tips in the book include how to break up family fights, music selection for gay and straight guests, and an engagement ring tip.

The author took a victory lap after news of the ruling Friday on his personal website:

It is surreal to eyewitness so many events collide at one time in The United States. From senseless violence to arguments over the right to fly a flag, the bad seems to outweigh the good at times. But today I take stock and reflect on what is good in our nation.

Blackmon also added: “I have been happily married to my Canadian husband Martin since 2009 in Canada. Marriage equality has been recognized there since 2002. But after a flood of text messages, Tweets and Facebook postings shared by my friends in the states, it reminded me of the magnitude of this historic moment in time.”

He concluded: “When I am old, and there is the child of a same-sex couple staring in a Hollywood blockbuster or high ranking Politian who thanks their two moms for all their love and support, I will look back on THIS day, as the day that made it possible. #LuvIsLuv #LoveAlwaysWins.”
