If Lady Gaga was at all embarrassed about mistaking a mariachi festival for a gay pride parade, she didn’t show it.
The pop star was in Chicago on Sunday and posted an Instagram photo from the balcony of her hotel room. The Fame Monster had the words “Gay Pride” scrawled across her chest and stomach:
“Watching over Chicago Pride from my apartment and smiling so big,” Gaga wrote. “So many happy people. Happy pride!! #lovewins.”
“This is just about the coolest things I ever saw,” she added. “It feels to good to know how many of my friends and loved ones are out celebrating and feeling valued.”
The only problem? Chicago’s gay pride festival was not happening on the streets outside Gaga’s hotel room at that time. The Chicago Mariachi and Folklorico Festival, was, on the other hand, in full swing outside Gaga’s hotel.
The Mariachi Heritage Foundation noticed Gaga’s enthusiasm and posted an appreciative thank-you on its Facebook page: “The #GagaMariachiPride continues! Thank you Lady Gaga! Gaga is actually a fan of mariachi music everyone!”
The pop star took to her Twitter account on Monday to deny she had made the mix-up:

The Chicago Mariachi and Folklorico Festival drew 18,000 to Millennium Park for a day full of music and dancing, reports the Chicago Tribune.
