Police, FBI Raid Home of Subway Pitchman Jared Fogle

FBI agents and state police raided the Zionsville, Indiana home of Subway spokesman Jared Fogle early Tuesday morning.

Authorities reportedly parked an evidence truck in Fogle’s driveway Tuesday morning and were seen carrying items, including electronics, out of his home. Fogle was seen leaving the evidence truck, according to the Indianapolis Star. In the afternoon, Fogle was reportedly picked up at his home and driven away by a man in a black Lexus sedan.

The reason for the raid was not immediately made clear, but it comes on the heels of the April arrest of Russell Taylor, the 43-year-old executive director of Fogle’s Jared Foundation, on child pornography charges. According to Indianapolis CBS affiliate KTTV, a raid conducted at Taylor’s home in April found more than 500 videos of child pornography on a home computer.

Subway released a statement Tuesday afternoon in response to the raid:

We are shocked about the news and believe it is related to a prior investigation of a former Jared Foundation employee,” the sandwich chain said. “We are very concerned and will be monitoring the situation closely. We don’t have any more details at this point.

Fogle appeared in commercials for Subway in the late 1990s after losing more than 200 pounds on a diet consisting mostly of the chain’s sandwiches and exercise.

In 2004, Fogle founded the Jared Foundation to raise awareness of childhood obesity. The organization raises money and develops programs for children to learn healthy eating habits.

Neighbor Jacob Schrader, 19, described Fogle as a “private guy,” telling the Star that he would occasionally see him retrieving his mail or walking around the neighborhood.

“This doesn’t ever happen in this neighborhood,” Schrader told the paper.

Meanwhile, Taylor has reportedly been charged with seven counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. He attempted to commit suicide on May 6 at the Marion County Jail where he is currently being held, and is reportedly on life support.

“I was shocked to learn of the disturbing allegations against Mr. Taylor,” Fogle said in a statement issued after Taylor’s arrest in April. “Effective immediately, the Jared Foundation is severing all ties with Mr. Taylor.”
