Nicki Minaj earned three MTV Video Music Award nominations this week – but the rapper was apparently unsatisfied, because she took to Twitter to complain that her music video for “Anaconda” wasn’t nominated for the network’s top “Video of the Year” honor.
“If I was a different ‘kind’ of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well,” the Pinkprint rapper tweeted Tuesday, adding: “When the ‘other’ girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination.”
If I was a different "kind" of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well. 😊😊😊

Minaj’s “Anaconda,” which racked up nearly 20 million hits in 24 hours after its premiere last year on Vevo, picked up nods for Best Female Video and Best Hip Hop Video, and the rapper earned one more for her collaboration with Jessie J and Ariana Grande on the video for “Bang Bang.”
But “Anaconda,” which now has over 488 million hits on YouTube, was shut out of the Video of the Year category in favor of Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” and Beyoncé’s “7/11.” Ed Sheeran (“Thinking Out Loud”), Kendrick Lamar (“Alright”), and Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars (“Uptown Funk”) also scored nominations for the top award.
And Minaj couldn’t let it go:
Ellen did her own anaconda video and did the #choreo lol. Remember her doing that kick 😩. Even mtv did a post on the choreo @MTV remember?

U couldn't go on social media w/o seeing ppl doing the cover art, choreo, outfits for Halloween…an impact like that & no VOTY nomination?

If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

Taylor Swift apparently took Minaj’s Twitter rant personally, as she tweeted Minaj to let her know it wasn’t her fault that “Anaconda” got snubbed:

But Minaj insisted Swift’s nomination had nothing to do with her frustration, and said Swift “must not be reading my tweets:”
Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13

Minaj also criticized “white media,” and in particular, former American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, for blowing up her response to Swift:
Nothing I said had to do with Taylor. So what jabs? White media and their tactics. So sad. That's what they want. https://t.co/AfcwoyDvpg

The whole thing seemed to blow over a few hours later, but not before Bruno Mars tried to get in on the fun:
Yo I want in on this twitter Beef!! VMAs is the new WWF!! @edsheeran Fuck You!

The MTV VMA’s will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on August 30. View the full list of nominations here.

I'm not always confident. Just tired. Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it. https://t.co/2xOvJzBXJX
