Riot Police Shut Down Two Shows by Rapper Future in L.A.

Two free concerts planned on L.A.’s Sunset Strip by rapper Future were cancelled Thursday, after massive crowds of fans caused two separate road closures and shot off fire extinguishers.

The rapper was scheduled to perform before 500 fans for free at the Roxy in West Hollywood as part of a “Salute the Fans” four-show tour, which kicked off Monday in Atlanta, GA. Advertisements for the concerts were announced all week, but the crowds were much larger than expected, according to KTLA.

The original show was scheduled to start at midnight, but fans were lining up by as early as 9:00 a.m. Thursday.

“Everybody was just hyped about the buzz. It’s a free concert,” a San Bernardino resident waiting outside the venue told the affiliate.

Other fans outside the Roxy were informed around 4:00 p.m. the show had been called off and moved to the House of Blues, after police were forced to close several blocks of Sunset BLVD.

Several hours later, Future tweeted the show had been rescheduled for 10 p.m. at its new location on the Sunset Strip, and promised the first 800 fans who showed up would be admitted.

Large crowds then formed in front of the House of Blues, which prompted dozens of police vehicles to close off Sunset Boulevard between North La Cienega Boulevard and North Kings Road.

The House of Blues show was then cancelled just before 11:00 p.m.

Photos and videos from fans at the scene showed police in riot gear, but no arrests were reported.

Future then vowed to return on his Twitter account:

TMZ reports Future ended up putting on a show at the Supperclub in Hollywood.
