Gwyneth Paltrow to GOOP Steam Douche Haters: We’re Not Selling Guns

Since the debut of Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle publication GOOP, the star has been chastised for running stories about vaginal steam cleaning and tips for peeing, among other things. But now Paltrow has a message for the critics: relax, it’s not like I’m selling guns.

The 42-year-old Oscar-winner appears on the cover of Fast Company business magazine’s September issue, and in a new interview addresses critics who mocked her for the stories about “conscious uncoupling” and vaginal steaming.

“When I announced that I was separating on the website, [Goop editorial director Elise Loehnen] titled the piece ‘Counscious Uncoupling’ and I had no idea,” said Paltrow.

“When something like that happens, I think everybody is like, ‘Oh sh*t…I just tell them that I think we are creating interesting discussions,” she added.

Paltrow made headlines back in January when she advised women to have their vaginas steam-cleaned for an “energetic release,” a practice that was discouraged by physicians, but stands her ground with the endorsement.

“This is a thousands-of-years-old practice in Korean spas,” she said, while her partner added: “It feels good… It’s not like we’re urging people to go out and buy AK-47s.”

Gwyneth plans to launch a skin care line next year, and to devote all of her time to ensure the site continues to flourish, she says.

“I’m at Goop every day,” she explained. “It’s my main job. I’ve made commitments to people and I’ve taken their money, so I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that the brand scales.”

Additionally, Paltrow will put her acting career on the back-burner while she develops her brand at Goop.
