Kristen Stewart: ‘It’s Not Important to Define Sexuality’

Actress Kristen Stewart told Nylon she doesn’t think it’s necessary for people to define their sexuality.

In a new interview with the magazine, the American Ultra star vaguely addressed earlier reports she has been dating her female assistant, Alicia Cargile, by stating she is simply embracing the “ambiguity of this life.”

She said:

If you feel like you really want to define yourself, and you have the ability to articulate those parameters and that in itself defines you, then do it…

…But I am an actress, man. I live the f*cking ambiguity of this life and I love it. I don’t feel like it would be true for me to be like, ‘I’m coming out!’ No, I do a job…

…Until I decide that I’m starting a foundation or that I have some perspective or opinion that other people should be receiving… I don’t. I’m just a kid making movies.

Additionally, Stewart predicts many will share her view points on sexuality in the coming years.

“I think in three or four years, there are going to be a whole lot more people who don’t think it’s necessary to figure out if you’re gay or straight,” she continued. “It’s like, just do your thing.”

The Twilight alum also addressed how the media perceives her personality, which is often described as awkward, bland, or cold, and at times feels like she’s a character in a weekly comic book.

Moreover, Stewart says she has an “assigned personality” that she admittedly helped create.

“People stand to make a lot of money on people like me – it’s this booming industry, so why would you go and change the character that people are paying for?” she asked.

Stewart’s latest action-comedy film American Ultra hits theaters on August 21.
