Long-time Clinton chum Casey Wasserman, a Hollywood sports agent, suggested Sunday that a run by Vice President Joe Biden for president in 2016 would serve to strengthen Hillary’s run for the Democratic Party nomination and the Oval Office.
“…[I]f the vice president wanted to get in, that would force Hillary to engage and elevate her game and produce her best result as a candidate,” Wasserman said, according to the Los Angeles area NBC News affiliate.
In an April fundraising appeal on Clinton’s behalf, Wasserman and Haim Saban emailed potential donors, telling them that Clinton is a “strong leader and true friend when it comes to the U.S. and Israeli relationship. Trust me we know!” According to Variety, the email also called Clinton “by far the most qualified and experienced person to be the President of the United States.”
The report notes that Saban and Wasserman supported her 2008 bid for the Presidency.
Concerning Clinton’s email deletion scandal, Wasserman told NBC News, “I think you’d be crazy not to be concerned, but the truth is every candidate makes mistakes and I think her job is to admit to those mistakes or challenges and move forward.”
Wasserman recently became chair of a Los Angeles campaign to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games–an event that top California demographer Joel Kotkin recently warned could prove a financial loser.
“They are giving us their most valuable asset to exploit (the games), they are giving us $1.5 billion and we get the rights to sell sponsorships, tickets…whatever we want to exploit that opportunity…we just can’t come back to them for more money,” Wasserman said Sunday of a potential L.A. Olympics.
The entertainment executive also said Sunday that he would like to run for political office in the future.
NBC L.A. described Wasserman as “one of the most powerful sports executives in the nation.” Follow Michelle Moons on Twitter @MichelleDiana
