Actor Nichola Brendon, who played a major role on the hit WB show Buffy The Vampire Slayer, was arrested in upstate New York on Wednesday for allegedly choking his girlfriend.

PEOPLE reports Brendon was staying at a hotel in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. when his girlfriend, who is not named, dropped by to return his things. The actor reportedly became upset when the woman attempted to leave and call for help, and took her keys and smashed her phone.

Police arrived to find the woman alone in the room, and Nicholas gone.

“He allegedly grabbed her by the throat and started choking her,” Lieutenant Bob Jillson told the magazine. “We got to the room and we found a 33-year-old female there by herself, and she reported that she had been in a domestic incident with Nick, and he had subsequently left before we got there.”

Jillian added, “She did not have any physical injuries that we were aware of.”

Brendon was located by police walking down a nearby street, moments later.

He has been charged with robbery, criminal mischief and obstruction of breathing, police told PEOPLE. He is out on bond.

This is the actor’s fourth arrest this year. Other charges range from public intoxication to property damage.

In August, he spoke to Dr Phil about his struggles with drug addiction and mental illness, but stormed off the set.

Brendon began playing the character of Xander Harris, opposite Sarah Michelle Geller, in 1996.
