Hillary Clinton to Appear on ‘Saturday Night Live’ Alongside Miley Cyrus

Hillary Clinton is set to appear on Saturday Night Live when its 41st season premieres on October 3.

According to the New York Times, Clinton will join in the show’s “cold open” sketch, where she is expected to appear alongside SNL cast member Kate McKinnon, who is playing the current Democrat presidential frontrunner in the show’s satirical coverage of the 2016 election. Pop star Miley Cyrus is hosting the proceedings, fresh off of her hosting duties at last month’s MTV Video Music Awards.

The Times reports that the opening sketch will feature Clinton making fun of herself for trying to appear more authentic on the campaign trail.

Clinton’s appearance was reportedly meant to be a surprise, and her campaign did not confirm any details about it to the Times.

Of course, SNL has had a long relationship with Clinton dating back to Bill’s tenure in the White House, when Jan Hooks played her alongside Phil Hartman’s Bill.

Newcomer Kate McKinnon has since taken over as Hillary, delivering a number of critically-praised sketches on the program last season.

But it was former SNL cast member Amy Poehler’s impression of Clinton that earned the most praise: appearing alongside frequent collaborator Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin, the duo delivered big ratings and instant classic sketches for the show during the 2008 presidential campaign. At one point, Clinton herself appeared alongside Poehler for a sketch that mocked the timbre of the candidate’s laugh.

Clinton’s SNL appearance comes after she made the rounds for several recent high-profile television interviews. Last month, the candidate appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to mock her Republican rival Donald Trump, while the week prior, Clinton appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where DeGeneres called her the “smartest, most qualified person” of any candidate in the presidential race.

Clinton also sat down with Lena Dunham for a recent interview for the actress-writer’s new “Lenny” online newsletter, where Dunham asked Clinton if she had seen pictures of rocker Lenny Kravitz’s penis after a recent wardrobe malfunction.

The SNL appearance is a big opportunity for the Clinton campaign to stave off negative favorability ratings among general election voters. According to the Times, Clinton passed on delivering the keynote speech to the Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBT advocacy organization in the United States, to do SNL.
