Aside from her superhuman strength, x-ray vision, and impeccable hearing, Supergirl has now embraced her role as a modern-day feminist, says actress Melissa Benoist.

Benoist, star of CBS’ new Supergirl series, stopped by The Late Show this week, where she told host Stephen Colbert why the show has a feminist message.

“I kind of tear up when I watch it,” said Colbert, while gushing over his excitement to see a young woman on TV.

“Do you like the idea that it’s got sort of a feminist message to it?” he asked.

“I think it’s great,” said Benoist. “And I think what’s feminist about it is that it’s for everyone. She has all the same powers [Superman] does.”

GOP presidential hopeful Jeb Bush is apparently also a fan of the new series.

Bush was in Las Vegas at the Libre Initiative forum last week, where he said he was looking forward to tuning in after watching a promo.

“She [Supergirl] looked pretty hot,” said Bush. “I don’t know what channel it’s on, but I’m looking forward to that.”

Benoist appeared on CBS’ This Morning on Monday, where she was asked about the former Florida state governor’s comments about her looking “hot.”

“I heard about it, but I don’t know,” said the actress. “I’m glad he’s excited to watch the show.”
