Watch: Trailer for Adam Sandler’s Controversial Netflix Movie ‘The Ridiculous 6’

Adam Sandler’s controversial Netflix film The Ridiculous 6 got its first trailer this week.

Sandler stars in the comedy Western as Tommy “White Knife” Stockburn, who goes on an adventure across the Old West with his five half-brothers. Terry Crews, Jorge Garcia, Taylor Lautner, Rob Schneider, and Luke Wilson play Sandler’s brothers in the film.

Ridiculous 6 is Sandler’s first entry in a four-picture deal the actor-comedian signed with Netflix earlier this year. The streaming giant has moved aggressively into the original film space, releasing the critically-acclaimed war drama Beasts of No Nation starring Idris Elba earlier this month.

Sandler’s film came under fire earlier this year when a number of Native American actors walked off the set, accusing the production of utilizing offensive stereotypes in its jokes.

Both Netflix and Sandler separately defended the film: the streaming service released a statement saying that the movie has “ridiculous” in its title for a reason, while Sandler called the widely-reported spat a “misunderstanding.”

Added Sandler:

“I talked to some of the actors on the set who were there and let them know that the intention of the movie is 100% to just make a funny movie. It’s really about American Indians being good to my character and about their family and just being good people. There’s no mocking of American Indians at all in the movie. It’s a pro-Indian movie. So hopefully when people see it — whoever was offended on set and walked out, I hope they realize that, and that’s it. It was kinda taken out of context.”

Sandler penned the script for Ridiculous 6 with longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy (Billy Madison, Big Daddy, Grown Ups 2, Pixels). Frank Coraci, who has worked with Sandler in the past on multiple films including The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy and Blended, directs.

The Ridiculous 6 bows exclusively on Netflix on December 11. Check out the trailer above.
