As Star Wars fans gear up for Friday’s release of The Force Awakens on Friday, some have turned to the Dark Side to celebrate — sales of one particular Star Wars-themed porn film have skyrocketed in the past two weeks.
According to porn retailer GameLink, sales of Star Wars XXX, a “porn parody” of the popular franchise released in 2012, have shot up 500% in the past two weeks, reports Mashable.
The retailer wouldn’t say how many copies of the DVD it had sold, but did reveal the top ten cities where demand was particularly strong, led by San Francisco, Little Rock, Arkansas, and New York City.
“The spike in sales for the parody is representative of a much larger trend of brand-specific merchandise for Star Wars, which shows the strong bond fans have with the movies,” GameLink’s Jeff Dillon told Mashable. “We began noticing a gradual increase in sales of the title at the beginning of November, but it wasn’t until the past two weeks that purchases of Star Wars XXX really skyrocketed.”
Star Wars XXX features popular porn stars Allie Haze as Princess Leia and Lexington Steele as Darth Vader. Axel Braun, who directed the 2012 film, has also directed such porn parodies as Avengers XXX, The Dark Knight XXX, and Peter Pan XXX.
The filmmakers behind Star Wars XXX have reportedly said the film had the “highest budget ever” for a porn movie, though they would not disclose that budget.
