George and Amal Clooney Raise Clinton Cash

Hollywood power couple George and Amal Clooney will host a pair of fundraisers for Democrat presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton in Los Angeles and San Francisco next month.

While the exact locations and ticket prices have not yet been announced, People magazine reports that the fundraising events will include cocktails and dinner with the Democrat frontrunner. All proceeds from the events will go to the Hillary Victory Fund.

Additionally, the Clinton campaign is running a contest for supporters who would like to meet the candidate at the Clooneys’ California home. (Those interested in meeting the trio can enter the contest by texting CLOONEY to 47246, beginning today.)

The 54-year-old Hail, Caesar! actor confirmed that he would be hosting a fundraiser for Clinton in an interview with the Guardian last month, but the dates and locations had not been previously announced. Clinton is scheduled to attend at least two high-dollar events next week, during what will be her eighth fundraising trip to California this cycle.

Clooney has spoken publicly about his support for Clinton. In May, the actor told Fusion anchor Jorge Ramos he would support the now-Democrat frontrunner in “whatever way” he could.

“I think she’s a tremendous candidate, Clooney told Ramos then. “I know her and I think the world of her. And I think I would be very happy if she were president.”

Meanwhile, Clooney has been a vocal critic of Clinton’s chief rival, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. In the same interview with the Guardian, the actor called Trump and “opportunist” and a “xenophobic fascist.”

“The truth of the matter is, in election season, things go crazy, and the loudest voices are the furthest and most extreme,” he told the paper. “So you hear a massively stupid idea, like we’re going to ban Muslims from the country. Now, we’re not ever going to do that. It says in the Statue of Liberty, bring us your huddled masses. It’s not what’s going to happen.”

Clooney’s fundraising prowess could go a long way toward helping to fill Clinton’s campaign coffers ahead of November’s general election. In May 2011, Clooney hosted a star-studded bash at his Studio City home that raked in a staggering $15 million for President Obama’s reelection campaign.
