WATCH: First Trailer for ‘Ben-Hur’ Remake

The first trailer for the Paramount/MGM reboot of the epic Ben-Hur has arrived.

Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) takes over for Charlton Heston in the iconic role of Judah Ben Hur, a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army.

Stripped of his title and separated from his family and the woman he loves (Iron Man‘s Nazanin Boniadi), Judah is forced into slavery and despair. After years at sea, a breathtaking turn of events sends Judah on an epic journey back to his homeland to seek revenge, where a chance encounter with Jesus of Nazareth (300‘s Rodrigo Santoro) transforms his life and leads him to discover grace, mercy and ultimately, redemption.

The original Ben-Hur won 11 of the 12 Oscars it was nominated for at the 1960 Academy Awards, and is widely considered one of the best (and most dangerously-made) films of all time.

Timur Bekmambetov (Abraham Lincon: Vampire Hunter, Wanted) directs the remake off of a script by Keith R. Clarke and John Ridley. The film also stars Ayelet Zurer, Haluk Bliginer, Marwan Kenzari and Morgan Freeman.

Ben-Hur is in theaters August 12. Watch the first full trailer above.
