Angelina Jolie criticized Republican presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump on Monday over his proposed temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States.

Jolie delivered the keynote speech for an event hosted by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) at its London headquarters.

“To me, America is built on people from around the world coming together for freedoms, especially freedom of religion,” Jolie —who in 2001 became a UN Special Envoy for Refugee Issues — said when asked for her thoughts about the GOP frontrunner’s previous remarks on the subject.

“So it’s hard to hear this is coming from someone who is pressing to be an American president.”

When asked for her thoughts about how governments in the European Union and around the world should handle the refugee crises, Jolie said she’s disappointed in the United States’ response and insists that countries should work together to solve the problem.

“As an American I will be pressing my own government and speaking loudly about it,” the 40-year-old Maleficent star said. “But I’ve been very disheartened by my own country’s response to this situation.”

Jolie also suggested, as Breitbart News reported, that European states should open their borders to the millions of migrants seeking refuge and blamed concerns about unchecked mass migration on politicians “preying on fear.”

The A-lister also compared the refugee crises to World War II, saying it’s “that once-in-a-generation moment when nations have to pull together.”

The actress added that current efforts to assist the millions of displaced migrants are “drastically underfunded.”
