With many athletes, and now singers, choosing to kneel during the pregame singing of the national anthem, a man Saturday added a patriotic twist to “The Star Spangled Banner” before the East Coast Hockey League game between the Toledo Walleye and the Brampton Beast.
As he sang the national anthem, Joe Everson painted the famous “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima,” the painting that depicts United States soldiers raising the American flag during World War II.
