Watch: Jake Gyllenhaal’s Portrayal of a Boston Bombing Survivor in ‘Stronger’ Trailer

Jake Gyllenhaal and Tatiana Maslany star as Boston Marathon bombing survivors Jeff Bauman and Erin Hurley in the first trailer for the forthcoming drama Stronger.

The film follows Jeff, a working-class 27-year-old who is knocked unconscious by the blast and losses both of his legs. Jeff eventually regains continuousness, assists law enforcement in identifying one of the bombers, and embarks on an emotional journey of physical and mental recovery.

Stronger is based on Bauman’s memoir of the same name and details how the aftermath of the Boston bombing turned his life upside-down, made him a local celebrity, and tested the limits of love and family.

The film is produced by RoadsideFlix and Lionsgate, the studio behind 2016’s Boston Marathon bombing movie Patriots Day.

Academy Award nominee Miranda Richardson co-stars.

Stronger is directed by David Gordon Green and hits theaters on Sept. 22.
