CNN Misses Primary Boat, Sails On With King & Maher

The last-place cable news network, CNN, is the channel Wolf Blizter regularly calls “the place for politics.” It also operates a website with the motto, “all politics, all the time.” So you would expect the outlet to offer only the best and most credible analysis of the political headlines.

Last night, on the final primary election night across the country, it should be no surprise to any right thinking person that CNN opened the intellectual sluices and turned loose their political heavyweights to discuss the state of American politics. Presenting Larry King and Bill Maher.

As the political sands were shifting beneath their feet and with infomercial-like dialogue, Larry King and Bill Maher delivered what can only be described as the television version of throwing in the towel to FOX and MSNBC’s election night coverage. The closest I can come to comparison is the now legendary dialogue between the “chef of the future” Ralph Kramden and the “chef of the past” Ed Norton in a classic Honeymooners episode:

While the credible press was discussing the implications of a rising political power called the Tea Party, Bill Maher was busy challenging the existing world’s record for calling Tea Partiers “tea baggers.” He knows that the term is patently offensive and degrading, and yet, he continues to use it.

Mr. Maher must have some idea of the scope of the victories won by the Tea Party-endorsed and Sarah Palin-endorsed, limited-government candidates as he actually takes credit for bringing Christine O’Donnell to the attention of the American public. In 1998 Ms. O’Donnell appeared on his former show, Politically Incorrect with Martin Mull, Jasmine Guy and Eddie Izard where she was chastised for saying crazy things like “telling the truth is always the right thing to do.”

Was Bill expecting a thank you from Christine O’Donnell during her victory speech last night?

Maher also shared with us that he “created” Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham; “people may not remember we created Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham…oh I could go on, but the number of female —-” Then Larry breaks in with another mindless question.

Ann Coulter has been asked to confirm or deny that she was a Bill Maher creation, as of this moment, no response has been received, but we can confirm that MSNBC was the first national media outlet to bring Ms. Coulter to the big leagues, hiring her back in 1996, two years ahead of her appearance on P.I.

Larry also lobbed questions to Maher leading him to prepared material on the long-dead birther issue, the tired secret-Muslim issue and the disproved with video “Tea-Partiers-are-racists” issue. Well done, CNN.

Piers Morgan must feel very confident about his chances to raise the ratings bar when Larry King is finally handed the gold watch and escorted out door.
