Keith Olbermann is rumored to be joining Al Gore’s Current.tv which airs programs on Al Gore’s Internet.
Keith Olbermann, the former top-rated host on the news channel MSNBC, will announce his next television home on Tuesday, and people familiar with his plans pointed Monday to a possible deal with the public affairs channel Current TV.Neither Mr. Olbermann, his representatives, or executives from Current TV would comment on the move, but they did not deny that the channel, which counts former Vice President Al Gore as one of its founders, will become at least one partner in Mr. Olbermann’s future media plans.
One of the people with knowledge of the plans said Mr. Olbermann would have an equity stake in Current TV.
Some major moves are finally taking place on the left side of the blogosphere, with this announcement coming on the heels of the Huffington Post going to AOL. The left-o-sphere was tied into the presidential campaign with participation and creation dying off once Obama won, which speaks volumes about objectivity.
NYT:
Mr. Olbermann, his representatives and executives from Current TV declined to comment on the move, but they did not deny that the channel, which counts former Vice President Al Gore as one of its founders, will become at least one partner in Mr. Olbermann’s future media plans.
Expect Current TV’s programming to tilt even further left than it did originally, if Olbermann’s “equity stake” extends to production decisions. Because it worked so well for MSNBC. If AOL expects consideration as a serious new outlet with the incorporation of a far-left website, they are mistaken.
