One of the main institutions that make up the Left’s Ideological Iron Curtain is the Center for American Progress (CAP). The group, run by John Podesta and funded by wealthy Leftists including George Soros, runs a website called ThinkProgress. It is through these professional smear merchants that CAP feeds the mainstream media talking points about the Left’s “enemies” du jour. Pick a conservative personality and chances are ThinkProgress has done some kind of smear job on them.
The latest targets are the Koch Brothers. CAP even went as far as publishing a full report on the free enterprise and limited government promoting, job creating – one can see why Leftists despise them – Kochs. ThinkProgress is obsessed with the brothers and has been writing non-stop for months about them. While Media Matters (also funded by George Soros) is focused on its war on Fox News, CAP and its attack dogs are going after anything and anyone associated with Koch. It has gotten so bad that now we’re beginning to see unhinged Leftists threatening people whose only connection to the Kochs is their last name.
A case of mistaken identity has entangled a small family-owned Des Moines company in union protests and led to a death threat.
Angry callers are mistaking Koch Brothers, a Des Moines office supply firm, with the brothers who own Koch Industries, the global energy conglomerate. Billionaires Charles and David Koch have fought Wisconsin unions, financed the tea party and opposed climate change rules.
Dutch Koch, president of the Des Moines company, wants everyone to know he’s not one of those Koch brothers, and he’s not politically active.
“I initially thought it was humorous to be confused with a multibillionaire,” he said, but then a death threat was left on his answering machine. Koch reported the call to the FBI, which he said traced it to a California man.
Where’s the mainstream media on this? How long have we been hearing of an alleged increase in death threats against Democrats / liberals since the beginning of the Obama presidency? (Let’s ignore that this increase was debunked) When Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot by a lunatic, the press immediately jumped to conclusions and blamed it on “heated” and “violent” rhetoric coming from, you guessed it, the right. Who was out in front of that narrative? ThinkProgress.
Now the shoe is on the other foot and the silence from the mainstream media is palpable. The violent rhetoric, vandalism, and heated discourse, is coming primarily from the Left and much of it revolves around the Wisconsin teacher’s union situation. ThinkProgress and the lefty blogosphere who amplifies their “research” have made the Kochs the central bogeymen in it. How is it that alleged journalists are unable to connect the dots now? They were able to do it with far less information with the Tuscon shooting, why not now?
Those, of course, are rhetorical questions. We know exactly why they dare not wade into those waters. There’s a narrative to protect. There’s an election in the near future. The folks inside the Left’s Ideological Iron Curtain must be kept in the dark.
John Hinderaker of PowerLineBlog.com has been demolishing ThinkProgress’ Koch smearer, Lee Fang, in a series of posts which show you how intellectually derelict Fang and ThinkProgress are being with this elaborate straw man argument. Their strategy seems to be three-fold: make the Kochs out to be evil incarnate in order to 1) make the next election about someone other than Obama, 2) take attention away from their own connections to George Soros – who has actually taken down governments and sent economies into recession … on purpose and 3) make other wealthy conservatives leery of donating to conservative causes.
If Fang and his cohorts can keep the Left focused on the “evil” Kochs, they won’t think twice about turning out for Obama in 2012. In the mean time, their distortions and outright lies are creating an atmosphere of hostility that is going to wind up getting someone hurt or worse.
I don’t recommend holding your breath waiting for the mainstream media to call them out on it.
