Acting like you’re allergic to God is the wrong way to grow a big tent. Expecting Christians to willfully suppress themselves — sacrificing principle for popularity — is antithetical to the conservative ideology of individualism.

I expect progressives to recoil from a demonstration of faith in public, but I hope to not see such a reaction from anyone on Team Conservative simply because I want to believe that we’re fighting for the same freedoms, among them freedom of faith.
