LA Times Cheerleads for Obama … Again

The Los Angeles Times, gearing up for their Obama campaign push disguised as objective news reporting, is trumpeting poll results that claim Barack Obama is opening a lead over Mitt Romney because of the Obama campaign’s depiction of Romney has a corporate outsourcer.

The Times gleans this information by quoting a Gallup poll that shows Obama with a 48%-44% lead, the biggest lead he’s had since late April.

Of course, the Times doesn’t report that in April, Obama had a seven point lead nationally, according to Gallup, when the race was swinging wildly back and forth; Romney had his biggest lead of five points in April. The race has vacillated back and forth for months; as the Gallup site says, “The presidential race has exhibited a general tendency this year to regress to parity — each candidate has averaged about 46% support since Gallup Daily tracking began April 11.”

Gallup states that the rise for Obama was not due to the Supreme Court decision on ObamaCare because the poll results were the same prior to the decision as they were after the decision. But where the Times credits Obama’s rise to his outsourcing attacks, Gallup makes no remarks whatsoever about Romney as an outsourcer.

The Times excitedly reported that “Democratic strategists credit their attacks on Romney’s record at Bain Capital — the same record that Romney touts as proof of his ability to fix what’s wrong with the economy.”

Someone might want to inform the Obama supporters at the Times that correlation does not equal causation; just because a poll gives Obama a lead does not mean that it’s because of Democratic strategies. The vagaries of this election campaign can hardly be attributed to a single issue.

The Times, continuing to rally support for Obama, then quotes a new CNN/Opinion Research poll showing Obama gaining among women and minorities.  But the Times, as usual, is cherry-picking; what about the survey conducted by the Harvard Institute of Politics, which showed that in the 18 to 24 year old age group Obama’s lead is evaporating; that the lead with that group is half of what it is with 25- to 29-year-olds because, as John Della Volpe, director of polling at the Harvard Institute of Politics, said, “The concern for Obama, and the opportunity for Romney, is in the 18- to 24-year-olds who don’t have the historical or direct connection to the campaign or the movement of four years ago.” According to that poll, among whites in the younger group, Obama’s lead has vanished altogether.

The Los Angeles Times, which suppresses to this day the infamous video of Barack Obama praising Rashid Khalidi, the PLO leader, has never quite hidden its leftist agenda and its role as an Obama cheerleader. Does anyone take it seriously as a purveyor of objective news?
