Gunowners Organize Boycott of Journal News

On December 22, the Journal News in upstate New York published an online map complete with the addresses and names of all those who had permits to own handguns in Westchester and Rockland counties – a targeting effort aimed at gunowners in the aftermath of the school shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. Now, the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is calling for a boycott on the Journal News‘ advertisers.

Singling out Best Buy, CVS, IKEA, and Target for special attention, the group asked citizens to state that “you will no longer patronize any advertiser who uses Gannet (the Journal News‘ parent company) until and unless that advertiser withholds further ads until Gannett takes down the pistol licensee Web page and ceases attacking lawful firearm ownership. In particular, contact advertisers with whom you do business, and who may know you personally.”

Such boycotts have been routinely used by the left, not to defend individuals from privacy assaults against them by the media, but against political media figures they dislike. So far, no advertisers have responded to media requests. Neither has the Journal News.
