The jokes must still seem fresh to readers, as the New York Daily News ran a near-full page of “Weiner” double-entendres on Monday in its coverage of Anthony Weiner’s run for mayor of New York City.
It featured Weiner in bright red pants, waving a “giant plantain” at the crowd during a Dominican Day parade, shouting through a bullhorn, waving a red flagpole and sticking his tongue out. For his part, Weiner seems to have decided not to resist the jokes but play into them. His rivals, ahead in the polls, received less attention.
