CBS and NBC are retracting reports Monday of the alleged name of the shooter at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.
Below pic via Twitchy:
CBS and NBC both reported that the alleged shooter was named “Rollie Chance” before retracting the speculation soon after the initial report.
CBS’ Charlie Kaye reported on the incident:
BREAKING. @johnmillercbs advises the initial reports identifying the suspected shooter as Rollie Chance are wrong.

NBC’s Chuck Todd initially tweeted that NBC would not release the suspected name of the shooter, then later admitted that NBC would no longer report on the unconfirmed name (after deleting the previously mentioned tweet). He also said that tweets of the report would be deleted:
NBC News: we are now NOT reporting name of shooter; retracting that report. deleting those tweets

The confusion over the suspect’s name comes from conflicting law enforcement sources. That’s why we pulled back.

UPDATE:
Chuck Todd blames an ID found near the dead gunman as the source of the bad information:
The confusion over the shooter name had to do with an I.D. card found near dead gunman; What led to bad initial reporting.

Law enforcement officials now believe the I.D. card found was dropped during chaos; Still trying to I.D. dead gunman
