Wednesday, Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler was unable to find any way to parse President Obama’s repeated and relentless reassurance to the American people that if you like your health insurance, ObamaCare will never result in you losing your health insurance. As millions receive cancellation notices, that lie is being laid bare all across the country, and for telling it, President Obama received the full-boat of four Pinocchios:
The president’s statements were sweeping and unequivocal — and made both before and after the bill became law. The White House now cites technicalities to avoid admitting that he went too far in his repeated pledge, which, after all, is one of the most famous statements of his presidency.
The president’s promise apparently came with a very large caveat: “If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan — if we deem it to be adequate.”
One quibble with Kessler’s analysis is that he deceptively refers to the mandated ObamaCare coverage as a “robust set of benefits.”
Under the ObamaCare mandated essential benefits, millions are being forced to pay for coverage they neither want nor need. This includes maternity coverage, pediatric services, birth control, and coverage for issues ranging from mental health to drug and alcohol issues.
That is not a “robust” set of benefits for tens of millions. Rather, it is being forced by your government to pay for something that you do not need.
