Economist Yanks 'Anti-Semitic' Cartoon

The Washington Free Beacon reports that over the weekend The Economist pulled a cartoon that “many observers criticized as anti-Semitic.” The cartoon featured Barack Obama chained to an emblem labeled U.S. Congress and featuring two Jewish Stars of David. The cartoon was meant to complement an article about the hurdles Obama faces as he sets out to make a deal with Iran.

The Economist removed the image on Monday following backlash from readers.

“Editor’s note: The print edition of this story had a cartoon which inadvertently caused offence to some readers, so we have replaced it with a photograph,” read a statement posted at the bottom of the article.

In an update, The Free Beacon reports that the cartoon can still be found elsewhere on the Economist site.
