Breitbart CEO on Expansion: Andrew Wanted to Level the Playing Field for Conservatives Worldwide

After Breitbart News launched Breitbart London and Breitbart Texas on Sunday, Breitbart News CEO and President Larry Solov said the Breitbart logo will represent a point of view that will be recognized around the world as being “fundamentally anti-establishment, disruptive, and populist.”

Solov said the late Andrew Breitbart wanted to level the playing field for conservatives at home and abroad, and “it is our mission to carry on his legacy to effectuate that and try to help make that happen.”

Appearing on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125, Solov spoke to Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon and recalled a trip he took with his best friend, the late Andrew Breitbart, to Israel in 2007. During that trip, Solov and Breitbart discussed starting what has become the Breitbart News Network out of Breitbart’s basement.

Solov said he wanted to be an entrepreneur, make a difference in the world, and get an opportunity to “participate in the exchange of ideas.” He said the “clincher” was the chance to work with his best friend for what he had hoped would be a lot longer period of time. He emphasized that he would “always cherish having made that decision” to start up Breitbart News with his late friend.

Solov and Bannon discussed how Breitbart had “national and global aspirations” and wanted the “Breitbart point of view and angle of attack” to be present all over the world. He wanted the site to be a “a voice for the voiceless” around the world because, as Solov said, “Andrew was concerned with liberty and freedom” and the biases in the media, academia, and Hollywood that put “conservatives on an uneven playing field.”

Solov said that Breitbart wanted to “carve out a space where conservatives, wherever they are, could be conservatives free of being accused of being racist, sexist, homophobic,” or anything else that is used to “silence their legitimate point of view.”

Speaking about the importance of Breitbart Texas, Solov said that the “left is clearly emboldened and trying to flip Texas.” He mentioned that Brandon Darby, who will head Breitbart Texas, was once a leftist activist and thus knows their game better than anyone else. Breitbart Texas will fight back against the concerted effort to turn Texas blue, which would virtually make it impossible for a conservative president to get elected. Solov said that Darby “has a history of grassroots activity and a deep understanding of the tactics” employed by both sides to win elections.

Solov also noted the “global rise of the Tea Party” and the “international battleground” between anti-establishment forces against a global elite have allowed Breitbart News to take “a global and localized view” that is “complimentary” and not “contradictory.”

“London is such a hub for international business, life, and news. It’s also a place where conservatives are in the middle of the fight,” Solov said when discussing Breitbart London. “We think that London is the perfect launching point for a series of internationally based offices.”

Solov said that at home and abroad, Breitbart News will empower citizen journalism in a global revolt against an elite that wants to control the lives of citizens while highlighting “stories that the mainstream media don’t want told out there.” He mentioned that the late Breitbart’s second book, Righteous Indignation, was subtitled, “Excuse Me While I Save the World!”
