Fox Beats CNN Ratings With Breaking News of Harlem Building Explosion

Fox News hit a first place ratings finish with its coverage of the explosion at a building in Harlem on Wednesday, beating CNN, the network famously number one for its breaking news coverage.

CNN is still struggling to get its mojo back and even lost the fight for breaking news with Wednesday’s reporting, the one area in which it usually excels. Fox took the ratings prize for its coverage of the breaking news of the building explosion topping its competition in both total viewers and the important 25 to 54 age demographic.

During the 10AM to 11AM hour, Fox garnered 1,310,000 total viewers and 297,000 viewers in the sought after demographic. This beat CNN’s second place and MSNBC’s third during the first hour of reporting on the explosion.

The day’s programming also found both Fox and CNN earning higher total viewers over the previous day’s broadcasting as people tuned in to find out what happened in New York. MSNBC, however, lost viewers over Tuesday’s totals.

It wasn’t all second place for CNN, however. Anderson Cooper 360 earned a rare win in the key demo over Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor in the 8PM hour. But O’Reilly still had more total viewers with 2,810,000 to Anderson Cooper’s 972,000.
