MSNBC Looking to Cancel the Ronan Farrow Show?

MSNBC Looking to Cancel the Ronan Farrow Show?

Ronan Farrow was once celebrated as the next MSNBC super star, but now, after less than a year on the air, he looks to be on the bubble with sources saying his show is about to be cancelled.

After suffering major setbacks in the ratings over the last year, MSNBC appears on the verge of making some big changes, and according to Joe Concha, Farrow’s show is about to be cut.

Farrow, the son of actress Mia Farrow, was celebrated so soon in his TV career that he won the Walter Cronkite award for excellence in journalism only two days after his show debuted–which was also only two days after his journalism career began.

Farrow’s show, which averages only about 50,000 viewers in the important 25-54 age demographic, was supposed to bring younger viewers to MSNBC. But a recent report in The New York Times noted that the median age of the network’s viewers has actually trended older. Five years ago the median age was 58, but today it is 61.

Publicly, MSNBC maintains that they are still strongly supporting Farrow, but with the major failures in the ratings, MSNBC has to do something to stem the ratings bleeding.

Sources also say that Chris Hayes is being closely scrutinized for his low ratings, and the network’s once talked about morning show, Morning Joe, is also in ratings trouble. The NYT reported that even the network’s big star, Rachel Maddow, recently suffered her worst ratings.
