CNN Predictably Celebrates 35th Anniversary – By Hiring Another Obama Staffer

Today, June 1, is the 35th anniversary of the launch of CNN, the first 24/7 cable news network. In keeping with the network’s current format as Jeff Zucker’s personal, left-wing propaganda machine, the network appropriately announced on the day of its 35th anniversary the hiring of partisan Democrat Dan Pfeiffer as a “contributor.”

I would argue, though, that “Obama plant” is a better description:

Network chief Jeff Zucker announced the appointment this morning for the long-time top aide to President Barack Obama. Pfeiffer, one of Obama’s longest-tenured strategists, until March was the White House’s senior adviser for strategy and communications.

His first presidential campaign role came in a communications post for then-Vice President Al Gore’s 2000 campaign. He then worked for the Democratic Governors Association and later Sens. Tim Johnson, Tom Daschle and then Evan Bayh’s brief 2008 presidential campaign.

While Obama still sits in the Oval Office, this is the third Obama official hired by CNN. Disgraced 9-11 Truther Van Jones was Obama’s Green Jobs Czar.  Press Secretary Jay Carney was scooped up by CNN immediately after he left that post.

The idea of news agencies hiring former White House officials as contributors or analysts is nothing new. Dana Perino and Karl Rove are both with Fox News and both worked at high levels in the second Bush administration. One important distinction, however, is that they joined Fox News after Bush left office.

Obama has effectively been able to plant Jay Carney, Van Jones, and now Dan Pfieffer at CNN while he is still in office. (Carney has since left CNN.)

Obama has also planted Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and Senior Advisor David Axelrod at MSNBC.

That’s FIVE high-ranking Obama officials embedded at two cable news outlets while their boss is still in office.

Democrats sure got it good.
