Kerry disagrees with Hagel on Iran, nuclear arms… what else?

In his confirmation hearing for the post of Secretary of State, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) stated that he is “totally” committed to sanctions against Iran–a position that his former colleague, Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), now the nominee for Secretary of Defense, has opposed. Kerry also brushed aside Hagel’s enthusiastic participation in the nuclear disarmament group Global Zero as merely an aspirational dalliance, a harmless bit of idealism–but made it clear he believed deterrence, not disarmament, was the priority.

It is becoming ever clearer that Hagel’s views on foreign policy really are marginal, even within the cohort of liberal internationalists that President Barack Obama has nominated. Will the Senate point out those contradictions, or merely gloss over them, as it did with the administration’s Benghazi lies?
