Liberalism and Detroit

A recent report commissioned by the Skillman Foundation found that nearly 6 in 10 children in Detroit live in poverty. The study also found that “Children in single-parent households with a parent with less than a high school diploma were most likely to live in poverty, and that about “60 percent of children below the poverty line were raised in homes headed by single females.”

Since 1962, Motor City citizens have overwhelmingly elected Liberal Democrats into public office. And, as it turns out, unfettered Liberalism didn’t result in Utopia. Oh no. Unbridled Democratic control in Detroit has destroyed the prospect of upward mobility. But the people got what they wanted: big government. The result; a parade of social pathologies, coupled with bad policies have driven half of the city’s 1.8 million residents away. Detroit’s poverty rate is double the national average. More than 40 percent of Detroit’s high school students don’t graduate. And the labor union practices that brought down the Big Three auto companies are still strangling the city’s economy.

So, the question begs, does Detroit have to disintegrate completely before Liberals do-gooders finally admit abject failure?

That’s a rhetorical question, silly.
