ABC Gives Michelle Obama a Helpful Edit

Charlie Spiering at the Examiner finds ABC has edited an interview with Michelle Obama to remove a portion where she misspoke about a recent shooting in Chicago. Here’s what Mrs. Obama said on Good Morning America according to a story published on ABC’s website:

She was standing out in a park with her friends in a neighborhood blocks
away from where my kids…grew up, where our house is. She had just taken
a chemistry test
. And she was caught in the line of fire because some
kids had some automatic weapons they didn’t need
,” she said. “I just
don’t want to keep disappointing our kids in this country. I want them
to know that we put them first.

As Spiering points out, the weapon used in the shooting of Hadiya Pendleton was a handgun, probably a revolver as no shell casings were recovered. A revolver is not an automatic weapon. So ABC apparently did the First Lady a favor and edited out the part of her statement which was factually inaccurate.

The First Lady is very popular and deserves to be treated with respect. However if she is going to be part of the administration’s media push for gun control, she shouldn’t be getting the kid gloves treatment from ABC.
