Obama Foreign Policy Imitates Art Years Later

Sometimes the truth is best said and predicted through humor. In this case, the truth is not only funny but downright scary. The Fox News Channel aired a parody news show in 2007 called the Half-Hour News Hour. The show starred two actors as the program’s anchors who presented current events with a satirical spin. In one particular segment, the anchors are interviewing an individual portraying an international terrorism expert, who refuses to say that radical Islamists have committed terrorist acts.

The TV sketch would have remained forgotten if a similar scene did not take place at a Capitol Hill hearing four years later. Then Rep. Dan Lungren (R – CA) questioned Paul Stockton, assistant defense secretary for homeland defense, whether “we are at war with violent Islamist extremism” at a Subcommittee hearing on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. Frighteningly enough, Stockton sounded no different than the actor portraying someone like the assistant defense secretary four years prior.

Pretty funny, huh?
