‘Legitimate Rape’ Comment Featured In Law & Order Plot

Law & Order Special Victims Unit on NBC will feature Missouri Rep. Todd Akin’s comment in an upcoming episode.

“Ripped from the headlines, words that set off a national controversy,”
the show’s promo says. Then, seated in the witness chair at a rape
trial, is a U.S. congressman. 

“It’s nearly impossible for a victim of legitimate rape to become
pregnant,” the actor says, a paraphrase of Rep. Akin’s August 18, 2012
comment that “if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try
to shut that whole thing down.”
