Roll Call is reporting that the Senate will hold votes on nine amendments on the gun control bill today. (S.649)
Among the amendments to be considered are:
a plan to ensure that concealed-carry handgun permits issued by one state are recognized by all others,
a ban on the future production of ammunition magazines holding 10 rounds or more,
and a plan to impose new penalties for “straw purchasers” of firearms.
All are subject to a 60-vote threshold for adoption.
The Senate will also hold a vote on the expanded background check amendment, aka, Toomey-Manchin:
Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) announced that the Senate will hold votes on a bipartisan proposal to expand gun background checks to cover most commercial gun sales, a proposal that still lacks sufficient support to pass.
The Washington Post analysis indicates Toomey-Manchin does not have the votes to pass, with 52 voting yes, and 40 voting no.
There are eleven Republicans who voted to proceed on the bill but will now vote no on the Toomey-Manchin amemdment: Alexander, Burr, Chambliss, Coburn, Corker, Flake, Graham, Heller, Hoeven, Isakson, Wicker.
Three will vote yes: Collins, Kirk, Toomey.
