Victoria Nuland Getting a Promotion

The White House announced yesterday that Victoria Nuland will be nominated by President Obama to assistant secretary for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland has served as State Department spokesperson since 2011 until earlier this year.

The nomination requires Senate confirmation, so this could get interesting.

Nuland is best known for her role in objecting to the initial set of the Benghazi attack talking points when she “asked that references to al Qaeda and previous CIA warnings about threats posed to U.S. diplomats in Libya be scrubbed from the document.”  Ambassador Susan Rice took these sanitized talking points on Sunday Morning News shows following the attack to “explain” the events in Benghazi and the murder of four Americans.
