Congress to blame for Verizon-gate

In response to Oceans of data, drought of analysis:

The big picture here is that Congress drafted the Patriot Act, voted on it, and then sent it off to be signed into law by President Bush. While the Patriot Act makes sense to many, the Congress should have gutted  any and all of the programs or measures within Act that would have prevented Verizon-gate to occur. Then again, President Obama did sign off on the 2011 Patriot Act Sunset Extension act. 

There is enough blame to go around.

What’s the point of seizing this titanic amount of information about the phone calls of millions of innocent Americans when the government seems to have trained itself not to see certain threats?
