Allen West Won't Rule Out Primary Challenge to Rubio

Former Congressman Lt. Col Allen West joined me earlier this morning on “Mornings on the Mall” on WMAL in Washington DC. We discussed the latest on the “Immigration Reform” bill making its way through the senate, championed by West’s 2010 congressional colleague Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).

West voiced grave concerns over the amnesty aspects of the bill and the lack of accountability with regard to border security. I pointed out that many people who enthusiastically supported Rubio in 2010 are now disillusioned by the site of the Senator joining sides with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on this bill, and I asked West if he would consider a primary challenge to Rubio for his senate seat in 2016.

“That’s a pretty heavy lift, because you’re talking about running against a sitting senator, and then, of course, that creates that schism that the other side would love to see happen,” West said. When I pointed out that he had not directly answered the question, I pressed him as to whether he was prepared to rule out a run at this time. West said, “If I see people that are not taking our country down the right path, if I see people that are not standing up for the right type of principles, and putting their own party politics before what is best for the United States of America,” indicating that he might make a run.
