As part of this summer’s big ObamaCare public relations push, HHS Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, is reportedly in talks with the NFL and NBA to help promote the impending “trainwreck”, which is scheduled to kick in on January 1 of next year.
The Hill reports:
Sebelius said the football league has been “very actively and enthusiastically engaged” in discussions about a partnership to encourage people to enroll in newly available insurance plans.
“We’re having active discussions right now with a variety of sports affiliates” about both paid advertising and partnerships to encourage enrollment, Sebelius told reporters.
HHS is reportedly also in talks with the NBA to promote the law.
Partnerships with sports organizations are especially promising to HHS because the department hopes large numbers of young, healthy men will enroll in the law’s new coverage options.
They’ve got their work cut out for them as ObamaCare remains deeply unpopular in the polls, and not due to persistent “misconceptions about the law”, as suggested by the author of the article in The Hill, but for very good reasons, as recently reported by Guy Benson in Townhall.
Among those adults who currently buy insurance on their own, 48% think they will be worse off as a result of the new law, compared with the 13% who said they would be better off. Americans who have insurance coverage through the government or their employer also doubt, on the whole, that they will benefit from the new law.”
Their skepticism is well-founded. Healthy young and middle-aged people who purchase insurance on the individual market are likely to endure the most acute premium shocks as the law is fully implemented (and enforced by the IRS) starting next year. Healthcare policy expert Avik Roy offered an analysis last week explaining why these groups will see premiums rise between 64 and 164 percent in California alone.
Reportedly, the Regime will be enlisting churches and community groups to encourage people to sign up, which is bitterly ironic since the law’s sterilization-contraception-abortifacient mandate has been so energetically opposed and denounced by Christians throughout the nation.
