Students Waterboard Each Other to Protest Guantanamo Bay

Ball State University students Matthew Smith and Caleb Hoagland held an on-campus protest urging the closing of Guantanamo Bay.

Smith, dressed in military garb, waterboarded Hoagland who was wearing an orange jumpsuit similar to the ones worn by Guantanamo Bay detainees. In addition to calling attention to the, “voicelessness of the people who are detained, ” according to Smith, the protesters also collected signatures promoting the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2014.

There have been several anti-Gitmo protests in the past. But the Ball State University demonstration is among the few held on a major American college campus.
