A Woman Doing Something Nice for Her Boyfriend? That's Sexist!

I love this story about a New York Post reporter’s blog, 300sandwiches.com.  Stephanie Smith started the writing project when her boyfriend playfully said, “Honey, you’re 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring!”

She’s keeping track of each sandwich (she’s up to 177) and posting delicious-looking photos.  Naturally, some people have  a problem with this.  From her article in the New York Post:

“Why would you ever do that when he is capable of doing for himself? What is this, the 1960s? So sexist,” one wrote on Twitter.

Eric took a few hits. One blogger called Eric a “less funny MegaDick version” of comedian Daniel Tosh.

“MEN HAVE BEEN SOLVED BY ERIC THE SANDWICH WHORE,” she continued.

Another one even Photoshopped his head on the body of Gerard Butler from the cover of the movie “300.” I stood in the background with the rest of the worker-bee Spartans.

I saw Smith and her boyfriend on the Today Show this morning and they were adorable.  The boyfriend gushed that he would marry her even if she never made him a single sandwich.  Clearly, critics of their playful deal have their own relationship problems since they seem to view every interaction between a man and woman as transactional and conditional.

As a single woman, I’ll put this offer out there.  If you’re a mix of Bruce Campbell and Nick Offerman, I would be happy to make you 300 of any item (I’m really good at Italian and desserts) in exchange for an engagement ring.
