HHS Sec: Obama Had No Idea of Healthcare.gov Malfunction Until After Launch

In an interview with CNN’s Sanjay Gupta, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius reported that President Obama only learned of the technical defects in Obamacare website in “the first couple of days” after the launch.

“But not before that?” Gupta followed up.

To which Sebelius replied, “No, sir.”

Sebelius went on to say that “no one could be more frustrated than I am and the president” about the websites failure.  “We’re not at all satisfied with the workings of the website,” Sebelius said. “We want it to be smooth and easy and let consumers’ compare plans.”

The administration is bringing in more technical experts to fix the website’s problems.  “We (had) hoped that they had their ‘A-Team’ on the table” from the start, Sebelius said of the groups responsible for the project.

Extremely high volume was one reason Sebelius gave for the website’s problems, even though reports indicate the website couldn’t function with even a few hundred people using it during the testing phase

Sebelius claims over 500,000 “created accounts” on healthcare.gov.
